Remembering 2005

This week of December 25-31 is 2005's farewell tour. This coming Sunday will be the beginning of 2006 and the beginning of the late 2000's. Let's take a look back at some of the key moments of this year.

January brought the death of the legendary late night talk show host Johnny Carson. I have a DVD collection of key moments with Johnny Carson. My favorite skit was in the late 70's when he impersonated Mister Rogers. FUNNY! RIP Johnny Carson

As usual, 2005 brought many road events. The biggest one was in July when the US-64 Knightdale Bypass opened in Raleigh. On a more local note, the progress of Painter Boulevard made a big movement in Novemeber when the new traffic pattern on Interstate 40 opened to make way for its future bypass.

2005 also brought in the Carolina Circle Movement. On June 30, 2005, the demolition began on the closed mall and was completed on September 28, 2005. It became more popular when my interview was released in the Greensboro News & Record on October 23. The memories of the mall were being revived.

The Burlington Industries Building near Friendly Shopping Center was imploded in May. It was one of the two major buildings that were demolished in Greensboro this year along with Carolina Circle Mall.

RIP Bob Denver. I've always been a fan of him and his character Gilligan.

2005 was basically an action packed year and I predict that 2006 will be even more action packed.

2005 will be a memorable year for me too, but I hope 2006 is a little better personally ;-)

I know how you feel. 2004 wasn't exactly my favorite year so 2005 was to me an improvement.
