Interstate 140 from Interstate 40 East

Alright, to bring anniversary week to a close and to celebrate Road City's 200th post, I'd like to show you all some pictures of the new Interstate 140 Wilmington Bypass.

I was only able to get pictures of the interchange at Interstate 40.

This is Interstate 40 East about 1 1/2 miles from the interchange. Currently, the beltway runs from US-17 in northern New Hanover County to US-421 on the other side of the river. Interstate 140 is only designated on the segment from Interstate 40 to US-421. Also, notice how the sign is mounted on that type of pole. That's a rareity on North Carolina roads.

This is the exit for Interstate 140. This type of exit is a Collector/Distriubtor Lane (C/D Lane for short). A C/D Lane is a lane that runs parallel to the highway with exit ramps to access the other road. Also, notice that US-17 has been moved onto the new bypass. Soon the bypass will be completed to US-17 in northern Brunswick County. I'm assuming that US-17 currently multiplexes with US-421 south to it's current location with US-74 and US-76.

This is a view of the C/D Lane.
