Interstate 40 Winston-Salem Bypass Virtual Drive Part 1

The 90's are home to some of the best times. Interstate 40 being finished to Wilmington, the Great Carolina Circle Mall, Interstate 40 being added to Interstate 85, and my personal favorite, the Interstate 40 Winston-Salem Bypass opening. I took some pictures of it back in March and I would like to share them.

You have 2 choices. You can either head to Kernersville and Downtown Winston-Salem via Business 40 or bypass the downtown district via Interstate 40. Until the bypass opened in 1992, Business 40 was Interstate 40 just like the current Business 85 in Greensboro.

Union Cross Road: Home of the new Dell plant.

US-311 now joins the bypass. From this point til Silas Creek Parkway, this section of the bypass was open way before 1992. I believe it was first called Corporation Parkway and then there was an extension of Silas Creek Parkway. But in 1992, Corporation, Silas Creek, or whatever it was became Interstate 40.

A US-311 shield was once present here. Before it was moved onto US-52 sometime in the 90's, US-311 would leave the bypass here.

I am currently experiencing techincal difficulties so I will have to continue the rest of this post in another post.

You can tell that that section of the bypass is the blacksheep of the bypass because the road is rougher and older.

That has always been my favorite bypass. That part of Interstate 40 is the way all Interstates should be.
