My Humble Antique

Back in 2003, I bought this interesting find at the SuperFlea at the Greensboro Coliseum.

This Esso (Now Exon) map from 1972 includes a look at what North & South Carolina's road systems were like. A few items I found were:

1. Preddy Boulevard (Death Valley) was called Crescent Boulevard.

2. Wendover Ave. ended at Market Street and the section from Clifton Road into High Point was also Clifton Road.

3. Summit Avenue, Murrow Boulevard, Lee Street, and High Point Road was designated as US-29/US-70 Alternate.

4. Randleman Road was designated as US-220 from Death Valley to Randleman.

5. Interstate 40 was proposed to go toward Goldsboro instead of Wilmington.

I remeber that. That was still the case until the late '80s
